Richard Johns (1649-1717) was born on March 29, 1649 in Bristol, Somerset, England.
He immigrated to Maryland in 1672 and settled in Cliffs Calvert, Maryland. He was an eminent
minister of the Society of Friends, commonly known as Quakers. George Fox, from England,
and the founder of the Religious Society of Friends in 1642, stayed at his house during his stay in
America. After being elected to Maryland's Colonial Legislature, Richard declined to serve
because he refused to sign an oath. Elizabeth Kinsey (1651-1715) was born in Surrey England
in 1651, the youngest child of Hugh (1585-1667) and Margaret (Johns) (1585-1667) Kinsey.
Elizabeth came to America with her mother and siblings to join her father in Lancaster, Virginia,
around 1659. She moved to Anne Arundel, Maryland sometime between 1661and 1663. In
1670, Elizabeth married Thomas Sparrow. Thomas died four years later, leaving her a widow
with two children. On July 7, 1676, she married Richard Johns, he was 17 and she was 25. Of
their eight children, Isaac Johns (1692-1733) was the last one born. Elizabeth died on February
1, 1715 and Richard died on December 16, 1717, both while residing in Cliffs Calvert,
        Maryland.
