Narrative

My great grandfather was Henry Ward, younger brother of William. In the 1890s, Henry took most of his family to live in Derby. My grandfather, John Thomas Ward married and had 6 children. The 3 boys died as children, but the 3 girls all lived into their 80s and 90s.My mother, Margaret Edna May, was the youngest. She married Peter Duffy and the Ward name died out.
A few years after I married, we came to live on the outskirts of Leicester. It was only when I started looking into family history that I found the Ward family had come from Leicestershire.
William Ward is buried in Barwell cemetery, only two villages away from where I live. I believe his wife married again and his children emigrated.
Do you know much about Ernest William Ward, nephew of William and son of Henry? He joined the army and went to South Africa. When the 1st World war started he went over to France and was killed near Lille in October 1914 and is buried at Houplines cemetery, near Armentieres. Unfortunately I can't find out any more about his life pre 1914.
