Narrative

Hello- I’ve just found your website. William Ward, born 1842 at Barrow Upon Soar, Leicestershire, England, was the uncle of my grandfather, John Thomas Ward, born 1875, also at Barrow Upon Soar. William was the son of Thomas Ward and Ann James (daughter of Thomas James and Sarah Smith)

Thomas was baptised 1st April 1804 at Seagrave, Leicestershire (Parish records) He married Ann 25th March 1834 (Parish records) and died 18th July 1860 at Barrow Upon Soar. (Parish records)

In 1841 he was a coal merchant and in 1851 he was an inn keeper and farmer.

His father was also Thomas Ward, born1763 at Seagrave, died 25th January 1837 at Barrow Upon Soar. He was a farmer and an inn keeper. He married Ann Clater on 15th October 1795, at Langar, Nottinghamshire. She was born in Langar in 1772 and died in Barrow Upon Soar, Leicestershire, 13th June 1837.

Two small discrepancies…..

1. William Ward b 1842 wasn’t married in the Danish church in Quorndon. It was the Parish Church of St Bartholomew.
2. I have no record of William having a sister Diane. His parents were married in March 1834 and Sarah was born in 1934, baptised 14th January 1835. She died in Sept 1840 and was buried with her parents. According to the headstone in the churchyard she was 6 years old, but going by the 1841 census she must have been 7 when she died.

William’s father had some interesting siblings. If you would like to know more contact me. I hope this has been of some interest to you. Eileen
