John Short Sr. (1779-1832 was born in Woodford County, Kentucky around 1779 to
parents unknown. John Sr. drew a pension beginning in 1810 for serving in the Revolutionary
War in 1794 when he was fifteen years old. He served in the Company of Mounted Volunteers
commanded by Captain Anthony Bartlete and Major William Price's Battalion, On July 16,
1807 he married Mary Holman (1780-1818), the daughter of Edward and Mary Rue Holman.
They had six children, James (1803-), Louisa (1805-), Samuel (1807-1907), Allen (1808-1881),
Randoff Coleman (1811-), and John Short Jr. (1813-1903). Both John Short Sr. and Mary
Holman Short remained in Woodford County their entire life. At one time they owned as much
as 372 acres of land, but then progressively went down to 40 acres by 1815. Mary died on
September 25, 1818 at the early age of38. John Sr. lived to be 53 years. He died on September
1, 1832
