Anna Maria Hutsel, born on May 27, 1760 in Frederick County, Maryland, was the
daughter of Johann Georg Hutzel (1711-1778) and Anna Maria Magdalena Schweinhardt
(1725-1788). Johann George Hutzel came from Pfaffenhofen, Germany to Philadelphia on the
ship Thistle on August 29, 1730. He married Anna Maria Schweinhardt on June 17, 1739. They
made their home in Frederick County Maryland where all eleven of their children were born. He
adhered closely to the Lutheran religion. Johann, a farmer, purchased his first land from his
father-in-law in 1747. Johann served in the military in 1757 in the French & Indian War, and
served as a quartering (noble or distinguished ancestry) soldier under Captain Elias Delashuts.
Both the French and Iroquois Indians intimidated the settlers in Maryland, causing many
Germans to be killed, tortured, or burned out. Johann died on Mary 19, 1778 in Monocacy,
Maryland ..
