Thomas Benjamin Hardesty (1673-1743) was baptized on September 4, 1673 in
Hampsthwaite, York, England. His parents were George Hardesty III (1648-1694) and Cicely
Cecilia Ann Lingan (1641-1694), both from Yorkshire County, England. They came to
Maryland in 1662 and both died in 1694. Thomas married a youthful 16 year old, Sarah
Meades (1676-1742) in 1662. They had seven sons and one daughter. One of their sons was
William Hardesty (1694-1759). Thomas owned a 150 acre plantation called "Brooks
Discovery." He also owned a dwelling place he inherited from his wife's father, William
Meades. Thomas died on February 10, 1743, a year after the death of Sarah. To each of his
sons, Thomas left: them at least one black slave in his will.
