Francois' son, Matthiew La Rue (1656-1722), was born in France around 1656. He
joined the fishing colony in Maine and built a house overlooking the Kennebec River. Because
the area ran afoul of the Abnakis Indians in 1680, he sold his home and went to live in the
French Huguenot colony of Staten Island. Matthiew married Margaret Dore (1657-) around
1680. Margaret was born in 1657 and also originated from France. They had three children:
John Rue (1673-1756), James Rue (1685-1759), and Matthew Rue (1686-1734). Matthiew
may have built some homes in New Jersey. He died in New Jersey on October 30, 1722 and was
buried in the "Old" Tennent Church, located in Manalapan, New Jersey. This church is one of
the first Presbyterian churches in America and among its founders are Matthiew's sons.
