Benjamin Hardesty (1735-1817), the son of William and Priscilla Hardesty, was born in 1735. He married Elizabeth Hance (1741-1833) in 1765. In 1784, Benjamin brought his family
to Kentucky. With the help of the Clay and Offitt families, they built a fort at Bryant's Station,
Fayette County. The Hardesty's had thirteen children, ten of which were born in Calvert, and
three, including their last child, Francis Hardesty (1790-1880), were born in Kentucky.
Benjamin and his son, Francis, lived and ran the first tavern between Lexington, Fayette County, and Maysville, Mason County. Elizabeth died in 1833 and Benjamin died in Bourbon County,
Kentucky in October 1841.
